This juried Percent for Art commission is installed in a newly renovated and expanded Portland Parks facility. The two low-relief wall scupltures and linoleum mural each respond to different architectural contexts -- entrance foyer, lobby, and curved wall adjacent to the gymnasium.
The works are woven with metaphors about the Center's history, purposes, and hopes for the future. Many media (painted and carved wood, mosaics, ceramic tiles, found objects, and forged iron) are integrated to form visually rich configurations.
"Promenade" is the most ambitious use of durable , natural linoleum for a wall mural that we are aware of. |
