St. Vincents has expanded their Pediatrics In-Patient capacity and initiated a new Pediatrics ICU. The walls of the two intermingled facilities were a blank slate. We chose a signature color palette for the series of overlapping rectangles painted throughout the halls. These compositions became the context for mounting a menagerie of collage-based creature designs on panels with supporting cut-out figures. Art sites included two age specific play/recreation rooms, an exam room, conference room, and two nurses stations -- one highlighting the new PICU, 35 paintings in all.
In the words of a Staff RN, "It adds warmth and cheer to the unit. Visitors admire it and as a nurse I appreciate working in a colorful environment. It makes me happy." That is a prescription for recovery.
